Mr. Shawn Anderson
Our New, Fearless Leader!

Shawn Anderson is the Director of Bands at East Lake High School.  He is beginning his sixth year of teaching, this being his first year at East Lake.  A native of Jamestown, New York, Mr. Anderson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio, and is nearing completion of a Master of Arts degree in music education from the State University of New York College at Fredonia.

Mr. Anderson has had the opportunity to work with numerous teachers in the past in various capacities.  Past instructors and mentors he credits are Mr. Bill Knight, Mr. Frank Williams, Dr. Christian Bernhard, (SUNY Fredonia) Dr. Paula Holcomb, (SUNY Fredonia) Dr.
Mallory Thompson, (Northwestern) Dr. Janita Byars. (UNC - Pembroke) and Mr. Paul Schreiber, Director of Bands at Milford High School in Highland, Michigan.

Prior to his appointment at East Lake, Mr. Anderson taught in Jamestown, New York as an elementary music teacher and then as a high school band director before spending the following three years at Falconer High School, Falconer, New York where he instructed high school band, music theory, and general music at the middle school level.  He also oversaw the instrumental curriculum in the school district, founded and directed a  men's choir, and brought music technology into the curriculum.

Mr. Anderson has done extensive work in the marching arts, working for bands in New York, Virginia and Michigan. He spent the summer and fall of 2006 working as the Assistant director and music caption head of the Milford High School Marching Band in Highland, Michigan, a past BOA Grand Nationals Semi-finalist. He frequently assists bands with design, and works as a free-lance drill writer for small bands.   Mr. Anderson resides in Clearwater, Florida.
